AURA FAQ’S

1. What is Aura™?
Aura is an easy-to-use home computer security software program that gives a user complete control over what programs get put on a computer.
2. How does Aura work?
Aura works similar to the locks on the doors of a home – everyone is locked out and only the owner gets to decide who’s allowed inside. In a similar way, Aura treats all incoming software programs as threats and will not allow them to be put on a computer without the user’s permission. Aura’s patent-pending, File Blocker Technology stops all software from loading on a users computer, this includes unwanted and malicious software like spyware, viruses, adware, and Trojan Horses. If it is a software a user DOES want they simply suspend Aura’s preventative protection with one click and allow that program to load on their computer. Aura gives the users complete control over what programs get loaded on their computer. - no more random dropping of program files just by surfing the Internet.

3. How is Aura different from other computer security software programs?
Aura is a proactive security solution. Other computer security programs currently on the market are reactive and can only protect users from spyware and viruses that have previously been identified. Those providers are always playing “catch-up” to the release of malware. Aura doesn’t have to. Aura stops it before it ever reaches a computer user’s hard drive.

4. What are the system requirements for running Aura?
Microsoft Windows® 2000 & Windows® XP Home and Windows® XP Professional

5. Will Aura work on computers connected to a network?
Aura is designed for personal computing. If a number of computers are connected to a home network then Aura should be loaded on each of the computers with Internet access. See our Once and For All pricing to learn more about how we help people manage all computers in the household.

6. What happens when Aura blocks a file?
A small signal in the lower right-hand corner of the computer will indicate Aura has blocked a file. If the file isn’t one the user wanted, the user does not need to do anything. The computer will remain protected because Aura has prevented the unrecognized program from loading on the computer.

7. What if Aura blocks a file that a user wants to download?
If a blocked program is actually something that the user wants, Aura can easily be suspended by clicking on the Aura icon in right-hand corner of the taskbar, selecting Suspend Protection and following the dialog box to allow the trusted file onto the computer. After a successful download, right-clicking again will allow the ability to resume Aura’s protection.

8. Will Aura block the downloading of music, movies or photographs?
No. Aura only stops downloads of computer programs; files that typically try to perform a computer function. Music, movie or picture files do not try to perform a specific function on a PC, so they are not blocked. But Aura will protect the use from harmful files that might be imbedded within these types of files.

9. Will Aura block users from visiting specific Websites? No. Aura allows users to surf the entire Internet while preventing Websites from loading any software, like spyware, onto their computer.

10. Will Aura block pop-ups or spam?
No. Though Aura won’t block pop-ups or spam, it will block spyware or viruses that are embedded in them.

11. Will Aura clean a computer of spyware or viruses?
No. Aura doesn’t “clean” an infected computer. Aura is a preventative tool to stop any new malicious or unwanted software from getting on a computer. Ideally, a trained technician should remove unwanted programs, viruses and spyware and then install Aura to prevent future problems and break the never-ending spyware cycle.

12. How will Aura prevent future online threats without any updating?
There’s no need for users to ever download any updates because Aura blocks all malicious files, even those yet to be written. Aura is a proactive security solution.
13. How much does Aura cost?
Suggested retail price is $69.99 and includes five licenses to protect all of a family’s computers.

14. What does Once and For All Pricing™ mean?
Once and For All Pricing™ means a single Aura purchase protects an entire household because the price includes five licenses and doesn’t require any renewal fees.

15. Who developed Aura?
Gary Stevens, technology pioneer and the former chief technology officer of Ontrack Data International, Inc., developed Aura to protect his family's home computers after spyware twice forced him to rebuild a PC.
