Aura Technology Description

Aura puts the computer user in control of the Program Files on their computer. Each software program has one or more program files containing specific instructions that the computer “executes” to run a program. This is a very important point, because adding to or changing program files is how unwanted software programs, including malware, are installed on a PC. With Aura, a computer user can prevent program files from changing and stop new ones from being added without their knowledge and consent.
Aura has within it a rules-based structure that determines whether or not specific “running programs” should be allowed to create program files or modify existing ones on a user’s computer. The File Blocker Technology of Aura is configured to block only the changing of program files from a specific list of running programs. Malware will typically migrate onto a user’s computer either by piggy-backing off an “accepted” software program or via drive-by-downloads. Since the most common route for malicious software to get onto a computer is from the Internet, Aura’s protection concentrates on keeping known Web-focused applications from changing program files. These include:
1. Identified Browsers
• Internet Explorer, Firefox, Mazulla, etc.

2. Identified Email programs
• Outlook, Hotmail, etc.
3. Identified Chat programs/Instant Messaging programs
• AIM, Yahoo Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, etc.

Aura blocks all executable files routed through Web-focused applications and so keeps the program files on the computer “clean,” leaving them unchanged unless the user specifically wants to have the program file run on their computer.
